About Raz Chan Fitness

razRaz Chan is our Boot Camp creator and passionately believes in helping people achieve their highest goals in fitness and health.  As a successful fitness entrepreneur, he is the original creator of the program and has spent more than five years teaching his popular Women’s Cardio Kickboxing Boot Camp in Vancouver and Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Prior to him there was no boot camp called a kickboxing boot camp.

Raz was influenced by the practice of martial arts from a very early age.  His father operated and taught one of the earliest Canadian martial arts schools in Winnipeg.  After moving west, and with the emergence of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the increasing popularity of mixed martial arts in 1993, Raz began to seek out programs that emphasized realistic self-defense training.

From there, he began a rigorous training schedule in Defendo, a military close quarter combat system taught by Wolfes Self Defense under the guidance of Dennis Wolfe. Dennis also introduced Raz to the art of kickboxing and submission grappling. In 2003, he completed the Defendo Battleschool program and was certified by Regimental Sergeant Major Bill Wolfe.

Raz also trains passionately in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and currently holds the rank of blue belt awarded by former UFC fighter Denis Kang. Since 2008 he has been under the tutelage of 3rd degree Jean Jacques Machado black belt Todd Nathanson considered by many to be the finest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor in the United States. His training schedule – when he isn’t teaching – has taken him all over North America and the United States.  Notable instructors involved in his development include Jean Jacques Machado, Brian Johnson of Northwest Jiu-Jitsu, and one of the first individuals to bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to Canada in the early 90’s, Sylvio Behring black belt Bob McRoberts. Raz also honed his boxing skills under former World Champion Tony Pep and BASX Training owner Robert Caird.

Presently, Raz spends the majority of his time teaching his popular Women’s Vancouver Kickboxing Boot Camp and Women’s Burnaby Kickboxing Boot Camp. The clients enjoy his personal style of training and the variety of drills offered in his class. Most importantly, they have found it a fun and motivating way to commit to a healthy lifestyle by incorporating at least three hours of an intense workout into their schedule every week.
